Mercedes-AMG – 50 Years of Driving Performance

Half a century of driving performance – Mercedes-AMG is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year! Over the course of this half-century, Mercedes-AMG has repeatedly demonstrated its position as a highly successful sports car and performance brand by means of numerous successes in motorsport and the development of unique road vehicles. By extending the AMG GT family of sports cars with the new Mercedes-AMG GT C, the brand is again demonstrating its innovative power. The new vehicle will launch in the form of a special Edition 50 model and is identifiable by its broad, muscular rear end and large wheels.

Mercedes G-Class (2016) G500 Off-Road Test

All Mercedes-Benz G-Class models now offer up to 16 percent more power and up to 17 percent lower fuel consumption. The range includes the G 500 with a new, powerful 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine. All engines are compliant with the latest Euro 6 emissions standard. A new suspension setup together with more sensitive ESP control results in increased driving stability, safety and road comfort. The exterior and interior have also been given an upgrade. The exclusive AMG EDITION 463 and the G 500 4×42 are also being launched.

The new 8-cylinder powerplant in the G 500 can point to an exclusive heritage. It is based on the new generation of V8 engines developed by Mercedes-AMG that have already coaxed exceptional levels of performance out of the Mercedes-AMG GT and Mercedes-AMG C 63. For use in the G-Class, the V8 has been modified to deliver 422 horsepower (310 kW) with torque of 610 Nm. Other standout attributes include a spontaneous response and high tractive power
made possible, for example, by two turbochargers, which instead of being configured on the outside of the cylinder banks, are arranged between them in the V – the so-called “hot inside V”. This layout allows a compact design, optimal response and low exhaust emissions.

As part of its 50th anniversary Mercedes-AMG is this year celebrating not only the successful past and present; above all it is looking forward. With the show car Mercedes-AMG GT Concept the sports car and performance brand is giving an indication of the alternative drive configurations AMG is designing. Over and above this the four-door coupé heralds the further extension of the AMG GT family. The third model series after the SLS AMG and AMG GT is now being completely autonomously developed at the company’s headquarters in Affalterbach. The designation and fundamental design elements on the front and tail end denote the family affiliation to the AMG GT. The “EQ Power+” identifier on the mirror cam indicates the increased performance that can be expected from hybridisation at AMG.

Mercedes Debuts Facelifted S-Class Ahead Of Shanghai Show.

Due to hit European markets this July, the newly refreshed Mercedes-Benz S-Class is bound to set new standards in interior quality while also taking itself one step closer to fully autonomous driving.

Among its many highlights is an all-new and very efficient engine range, boasting multiple new electrification technologies. Of course with the S-Class, efficiency and autonomous driving will go hand in hand in the future, as this facelifted model elevates its self-driving capabilities with its Intelligent Drive system.

“The development of the new S-Class was extremely extensive. With a whole series of new features and functions the S-Class remains the technological pioneer,” states Ola Källenius, responsible for group research and Mercedes-Benz Cars development.

Before we get to all these new features, let’s talk aesthetics, because this is one category where the S-Class has never taken a wrong step in. In case you missed it, all facelifted models are fitted with a new radiator grille, where six and eight-cylinder versions have three twin louvres as well as verticle strips with a high-gloss black finish in the grille, whereas the long wheelbase and V12-powered models get additional chrome-finish vertical strips. Also new is the Maybach logotype found between the louvres of the radiator grille.

Aside from the new and optional Multibeam LED headlights, the updated S-Class comes with three distinctive torches of light as an exclusive design element. At the rear, there are new LED lamps which look like jewels, plus a light show that plays when the car is locked or unlocked to go with the three horizontal pairs of fiber optics.

In terms of styling, also new is the front bumper with pronounced air intakes and sporty looks – one could argue that the regular S-Class now looks as aggressive as the non-facelifted AMG versions in terms of their front bumper design.
